Sunnmøre - my moody muse

I am in love with Sunnmøre. I love our Art Nouveau town Ålesund and I love it’s stunning surroundings. It’s a never ending source of inspiration for me. The weather paints new pictures and cloud formations every minute and the light can be so fantastical that I just have to try to capture it. Even though figure painting, the painting of humans, is my first love, landscapes are just as wonderful.

With including metal leave like silver and gold in some of my cloud and light paintings, featuring my surroundings, I have developed a way of creating paintings that are similar in their moodiness, like our weather. Depending on your position in the room and the light, the sky and water my shift colours dramatically, from suddenly turning from a dark grey to a bright light. I like the effect it gives and it makes the painting a fun and interesting piece in the room, that keeps on surprising you.

I capture the special effects of light breaking through the clouds above mountains and fjords by the use of gold and silver leaf.

When I can and the weather allows, I love plein air painting - outdoor painting. It’s where I gather inspiration and create smaller scale work, that I sometimes develop into bigger works afterwards in the studio.

Painting outdoors makes me work quickly and capture colour in a unique way.

Outdoor painting

Painting foggy forests including metal leaf is one of my trademarks. I love the peace and the adventure they inspire in me. My name means actually woman of the forest, so my love of forests was given to me.

I don’t do these so much anymore, but definitely still on request. My collection is sold out for now.
